Flower Shoppe Owner Seeks Source

Vineland, NJ – On September 23, Dave Cavagnaro, owner of the Flower Shoppe Ltd, went on a search for the source of his business’ keystone product: Roses. His search led him to Quito, Ecuador to meet with the flower growers and brokers and tour the farms from where he buys his flowers. Ecuador is a huge producer of Roses, Baby’s Breath, Hypericum and many other popular flowers. Because he buys straight from the grower, this trip helped Dave discover which farms produced the best quality flowers while maintaining fair wages and prices.
To those in the business, Ecuadorian flowers are known for being big, beautiful, colorful, and having a long vase life. “After touring the farms, It is very satisfying to find out that they care for their workers and the environment.” said Dave. He was able to tour four different farms on his trip.
While there, Dave also went to the Agriflora 2008 Flower Expo in Quito. The Expo, held in Ecuador’s largest exhibition center, had over 200 exhibitors from 15 different countries. It was a great opportunity to see the newest flowers and design ideas.

Easter 2008

Hello Everyone!

Spring has arrived this past Thursday (or so the calendar says.) It's been rather chilly and last night the weather forecast called for snow, though I didn't see any. The wind has been howling for a few days, March is drawing to a close and it seems it's still roaring like a lion. But, we know it must be spring because next door to us there are thousands of daffodils blooming under the budding trees. We have heard stories about how they got there but we haven't heard a definite story. If any of you reading this can fill us in, post it or let us know.

We received a shipment of bulb plants consisting of, Tulips, Daffodils, Mini Daffodils, Hyacinth and Grape Hyacinth, and we've been busy arranging them into nice gift baskets for Easter. A lot of you have come in to buy these Blooming Plant Baskets and we greatly appreciate it.

We also received a shipment of Hydrangea, Trailing Jasmine, English Ivy and, the much requested, Gardenia Plant. Yes we finally have it in. Our greenhouse smells lovely this time of year. We opened the greenhouse last week after a cold winter. Everything is green and blooming, and the fish in our pond our becoming more active as the temperature climbs. Stop by and see our 2 year old Koi. He's a beautiful little guy, all white. We also have a Shubunkin in there to keep him company.

I learned to appreciate flowers, and all things that grow in general, from my father, as did he from his father. After seeing his love of putting together forms and colors into a beautiful arrangement, it seemed to me like it was an unattainable skill. As I grew I watched him and his love of flowers grew in me, and I realized that this skill only comes after you learn to be in love with the process. We strive for excellence in floral arranging, choosing color and form combinations that enhance the natural beauty of flowers. I think I speak for my father and myself when I say we are happy to share our joy and appreciation of things that grow with you. Bringing forms from the natural world, into your home can lift up your spirits.

We thank you for your patronage, without which we wouldn't be able to do what we love.

From all of us at The Flower Shoppe, Ltd.

Janice, David, Dave, Danielle & Tom

Thank You!
